The influences of their personal life experience on their current life were also being investigated. Qualitative research was conducted through semi-structured in-depth interview, and narrative analysis was used to analyze the dialogue. Qualitative data indicated that the causes of difficult situations faced by instructors can be categorized into external environment and individual’s perception of situation. External environment included both the inner state and the training during the novice stage. On the other hand, individual’s perception of situation applied to four different aspects: peers, personal experiences, instructor’s authority, and differences in perspective. Instructors perceived their attribution to difficult situations as a progress of shifting between one’s internal and external experiences. Feelings aroused from the perception of difficult situations were painful and suffering, but it allowed instructors to reflect themselves and learn to deal with those difficult situations. Furthermore, self-awareness played a critical role in formatting instructors' understanding and feelings that enhanced instructors’ tolerance and adaptability while facing frustration. Towards the end of the study, the within-person transformation of experiences, as well as the transition from external object back to internal subject were identified among instructors in their journey of adventure education, which makes adventure education a profession closer to one’s inner self.
