The Relationships of Dispositional Optimism/ Pessimism, Social Interest and Happiness of Correctional Officers in Correctional Institutions

碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 諮商與輔導學系碩士在職專班 === 105 === This study aims to extensively examine the tendency of optimism / pessimism, the situation of social interest and happiness within a diverse sample of correctional officers (N = 450), with gender, age and education varieties, employed at prison, detention center, and reform school in Taiwan, and explore the prediction between the optimism / pessimism, the social interest and happiness. In order to test the relationships among these varieties, the questionnaire is divided into four sections, including Basic Personal Information, Optimism / Pessimism scale, Social Interest Scale and Happiness Scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regressions. The main findings of the study are as follows： 1. Pessimism of correctional officers has significant difference among gender, and education. 2. Optimism, social interest and happiness of correctional officers have no significant difference among gender, age and education. 3. There are significant positive correlations between optimism and social interest. 4. There are significant positive correlations between optimism / pessimism and happiness. 5. There are significant positive correlations between social interest and happiness. 6. Social interest, especially the devotion subscale, can significantly predicate the happiness. Furthermore, based on the research results, the theoretical and practical implications of this study are discussed.
