However, thinking outside the box and making the plots even more attractive become challenging for character animators. Nowadays, many famous animations use literary works as their story’s prototype. Then, the character animators bring new ideas, such as figure of characters, background, and scenes, into the story to enrich their work. The purpose of this study is to compare and contrast the characterization in two literary works and animation scripts, and to provide future animators with suggestions on characterization. This research is divided into three parts: (1) defining the term “Characterization”; (2) analyzing the characterization of “Monkey King: Hero is Back” and “Frozen” in their original text and animation respectively; (3) using the result of content analysis in the animation creation of “Little Tigress”. The results show that most characterization elements in the original literary works are kept as the prototypes, with some new components added to alter the characters’ personality traits. Consequently, the relationships between characters, as well as the story line, change due to the new characterization. LEE, HSIANG-LIEN 李香蓮 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 94 zh-TW
