Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 文化與自然資源學系碩士班 === 105 === This article explores the National Festivals for the Taiwanese people during the occupation of Japan. There were many festivals created after the Meiji Restoration in Taiwan during the period of Japanese Rule. The four festivals at the time were: New Year, Emperor's Birthday, National Foundation Day and Meiji Jutsu. These festivals are related to the emperor of Japan. The country brought the molded collective memory into the public through a decree and holding a ceremony, which symbolized the country itself. Through these activities, the country presented the stability and the orthodoxy of the country.
The main purpose of this study is to understand the National Festivals held by the colonial government was a review of national thinking, or not; to analyze what methods for the colonial government to instill the patriotism of the National Festivals into Taiwanese people; how to present the loyalty for the country on the National Festivals; whether the National Festivals was the important medium for the colonial government with other Assimilation Policies. Festivals link the past stories and memories. Through the link of the history of the country and the modern country, to make people clarify their national identities.
At that time, how were the school textbooks, activities or official newspaper reports filled with the mold of the National Festivals. To observe how the ruling class passed the concept of pledging loyalty to the emperor and made the Taiwanese people become the people of the emperor, into the general public lives to achieve the goal of colonization and the stability of the political power.
The National Festivals were the good timing for the colonial government to mold Taiwanese people to reinforce the assimilation thinking of being the people of the emperor. It was also a method to survey the acceptance level of Assimilation Policy for Taiwanese people. The colonial government used the National Festivals to link the center thinking of Japan- the implementation the theory of nation’s form, to combine with official audit, school ceremonies and promotional activities, to remould the students and the public’s ideology of formal education and social education, to reinforce the conviction of “loyalty and patriotism” on the mind of all people, to achieve the domination purpose of stabilizing the society.
