For expert, in addition to fixed or pure focus of attention, the dynamic focus of attention probably was an important factor that influenced expert’s motor performance. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the effects of different foci of attention on expert’s performance. Methods: 18 senior high school hockey male athletes (age = 16.5 ± 1.0 years, training experience = 3.9 ± 2.1 years). Using the within-participant design, participants performed 5 pushes following 3 different sets of verbal instructions (external focus, internal-external dynamic focus, and near-far dynamic focus). All participants completed 15 trials in testing session. In this study, the focus of attention was the independent variable, and the push performance (score, radial error, variable error and standard error) was the dependent variable. Data were analyzed by one-way repeated measures ANOVA. Results: The pushing scores of external focus was significant higher than the internal-external dynamic focus and the near-far dynamic focus. Conclusion: For expert hockey players, using the external focus of attention can lead push the ball to the target effectively compared with the internal-external dynamic focus and near-far dynamic focus.
