The researcher employed various versions of social studies education textbooks for 1-4 grade approved by the Ministry of Education, including Kang Hsuan, Nani and Hanlinco, and there are total of 12 samples for the study. The research uses content analysis to the core competencies and competence indicators in the gender equity education issue of the nine- year integrated curriculum served as the analyzed categories. The illustration categories of adults include (1) the frequency of appearances, (2) the character of roles, (3) the housework, (4) the occupation, (5) leisure activities. The illustration categories of children cover (1) the frequency of appearances, (2) the character of roles, (3) the housework, (4) the occupation, (5) the toy. According to the above categories to analyze the issue about gender equity education for social studies textbooks and the presentation of gender- role through textbook illustrations from three versions, and the research results can provide suggestions and reference for revision of teaching materials for lower grades. The results of this research are as follows: 1. The crucial abilities distribution of main category in each of the three versions are proportionlly first 「self- other relationship for genders」, the second is 「self- understanding for genders」, and the least mentioned one is 「self- breakthrough for genders」. 2. The crucial abilities distribution of sub-category in all three versions, 「1-1-2 repect different genders」 are intergrated the most, and 「2-1-4 knowing the privacy of your body」 is the least mentioned part. 3. Gender bias is presented from the illustrations of all three versions, includes 「the character of roles」、「the housework」、「the occupation」 for adults and 「the character of roles」 for children. 4. Between adult and children, the analysis results of the illustrations of 「the housework」 from all three versions are entirely different. The illustrations of adult present that female is the main participant in the household. However, the children have to participate the housework whether gender is.
