Three works with different music style are selected as our study objects which are: Prelude Op.28,No.15 of Frédéric Chopin, Estampes - Jardins sous la pluie of Claude Debussy and Rainy Harbor of Ma, Shui-Long. Four chapters consists this essay. The first chapter is an introduction, explaining motivation and target, range and limit, step and data, and literature review of this essay. Formal analysis and music interpretation consist chapter two; formal analysis is based on the performance aspects, includes pieces overview, structure, harmonic grammar and figuration in various musical composition concepts. In addition to music style discussion on the overall performance; articulation, velocity, touch and sound,pedal usage and playing method are carefully suggested in interpretation analysis,helps pointing out the techniques that need to pay particular attention while performing. The third chapter provides discussion on the connection of music itself and the expression about the rain in these piano pieces. Through the analysis and organize, how and what the composers expressed the idea of rain in their compositions was explored, and expectantly objective connection between the visual and auditory experience would be resulted.The fourth chapter presents a conclusion.Through those pieces background of the musical composition and what the composers iv expressed the idea of rain in their compositions, it connects the composition skills and the expression of rain in music.
