Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 105 === Hakka Three-character Tea-picking Opera was brought to Taiwan during the late Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China. It was popular at the regions where Hakka people settled, and welcomed by quite a lot of general public of Hakka. During the Japanese ruling period, it was affected by other types of operas, and has consequently absorbed the performance style and connotation of every major drama. Then, Hakka Three-character Tea-picking Opera has gradually transformed into Grand Hakka Opera (also called Modified Opera).
In the performance of traditional opera, the cooperation of the stage actors and the backstage musicians is very important, including the vocal music, figure, acrobatic fighting, and the spoken parts of the actors. Besides, the instrumental music has the duty to match and change the mood of the plot.
This article has based on four operas, “Sun Wukong Borrow the Fan”, “Pirating of the Celestial Grass”, “Killing Four Doors”, and “Blocking Horse”, to compare and analyze the vocal and instrumental music of Grand Hakka opera edition with Beijing opera edition in order to construct a concrete, definite and complete recognition about the absorption and application of the music elements of Beijing opera in Grand Hakka opera. At the same time, to rake out what are the changes of critical music elements, which have transformed a “Beijing opera” into a “ Grand Hakka opera”.
