The main symptoms of ADHD are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. Hyperactive and impulsive behaviors include vocal abuse or misuse which may cause voice problems. However, related studies are limited.There is no research about vocal characteristics of ADHD children in Taiwan,and orther abroad studies didn’t investigate the vocal behavior of ADHD children. The purpose of this study is to ues perception, acoustic, aerodynamic, and vocal behaviors to investigate vocal characteristics of ADHD children. The subjects of this study are 17 ADHD children and 17 age, sex-matched controls. The parameters are perception, acoustic, aerodynamic, and vocal behaviors. Paired t-test was used to analyze the deferences between two groups. The results show that children with ADHD display significant asthenic in perception.Besides, ADHD children exhibit more vocal abuse or misuse such as speaking in noise, screaming, making loud or harsh voice, making effort to cry, speaking loudly, speaking too much, speaking quickly, interrupting others conversation, imitating bad or unpleasant sounds, and competing for attention in groups by using voice. The findings of this study can provide speech language pathologists and related professionals some indicators about vacal hygiene and voice therapy.
