Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北護理健康大學 === 語言治療與聽力研究所 === 105 === Purpose: To compare the auditory and speech perception ability of preschool children of speech sound disorder (SSD) with and without co-occuring language developed problems. Besides, the association among all variables of perception performances, language and articulation ability was also examined. Participation: Total number of 49 preschool children, aged 4;10 – 6;5 were assigned into three groups based on their language and articulation skills, which consist of 18 typically developed, 15 pure SSD, and 16 SSD with poor language abilities. All of them have normal hearing, oral function and nonverbal IQ. Methods: All participations respectively accepted standardized language tests and perception tasks, included: (1) frequency discrimination; (2) discrimination and identification of /ta/-/ka/ contrast; (3) discrimination and identification of /pa2/-/pa3/ contrast. One way ANCOVA, Pearson product-moment and mulitiple regression were used to investigate significance difference of 3 groups perception performances, and find the association of “language ability”, “articulation ability” and different levels of perception tasks. Results show that after controlling the covariant of nonverbal intelligence, significant differences were found in identification curve slope of /ta-ka/ and /pa2-pa3/, and response rate of identifying /ta/ allphone stimuli to /ta/ among three groups. Although the difference of speech perception abilities between pure SSD and controls were marginally significant forsome of the meaures, part children with only SSD showed equivalent perception abilities with typically-developed children. However, children with occurring SSD and language problems showed inferior abilities in speech perception processing in both stop and tone identification tasks. The reults of correlational analysis showed that all auditory perception index and speech perception index were significant correlated, but auditory perception index were not correlated to articulation performance, and most speech perception index were significant correlated with articulation performance, such as curve slope of /ta/-/ka/ and /pa2/-/pa3/ continuum, response rate of identifying /ta/ and /ka/ allphone stimuli to /ka/, and percent correct and d’prime value of minimal pair of /pa2/-to-/pa3/. Althiugh speech perception and articulation performance could predict language abilities and language abilities and speech perception could also predict articulation performance, the speech perception could be predicted by language abilities only. To sum up, there was a tight link between speech perception processing abilities and language performance. Compared to the children with typical development or pure SSD, SSD children with co-occurring language exhibited inferior performance on speech perception processing, especially at the phonetic level.
