It adapted a cross-sectional design. The purposive sampling method was used to recruit participants. A structured questionnaire was administered with face-to-face interview to collect data. A total of 166 Hemodialysis patients from a teaching hospital in northern of Taiwan were interviewed and completed the questionnaire. The questionnaires consisted of five components, including demographic characteristics, high risk factors, social support, self-management, and disability. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS software (SPSS Version 20), including descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), and bivariate inferential statistics with independent samples t-test, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and correlation to determine the differences in participant perceptions of social support, self-management, and disability. Multiple regression analyses were employed to explore factors associated with disabilities, while controlling for other factors. The results of the study showed (1) The prevalence rate of hemodialysis patients with ADL disability was around 44.6%, and IADL disability around 59%。(2)Bivariate analyses indicated that the scores in ADL varied by age, sex, Education level, exercise, depression, CCI, Albumin, phosphate, sleep disorder, pain, fatigue, and self-management (p<.05);Similar analyses also found that the scores in IADL varied by patient age, sex, Education level, exercise, depression, CCI, Albumin, phosphate, sleep disorder, fatigue, depression ,social support and self-management (p<.05).(3)Multiple regression analysis showed that depression, Albumin and sleep disorder were significant predictors of ADL disability, explaining 52.7% of the variance;depression, self management, Albumin, age and social support were significant predictors of IADL disability, explaining 62.5% of the variance. Implications from the findings in this study for clinical practices were drawn. Assessment and early intervention may be carried out for those patients with depressive mood, poor nutrition, poor self-management, and sleep disorder. To reduce the incidence of disability in hemodialysis patients and reduce the risk of disability Overall medical cost.
