Soldiers were the most essential resource of guarding home and defending the country. The career of army was a job of high working pressure and risk compared to the career of normal jobs. Recreations was usually a vital tool of gaining restarting ability after work. If we could begin to realize and cultivate enough knowledge and awareness of leisure based on the needs of one’s future career life from the first step in the process of the officer professionalization, the military can maintain the best working efficiency and life quality of career officers. The purpose of this research was to hopefully understand the leisure needs of new students in the military colleges and the constraints of engaging in the leisure activities, and to provide the foundations of human resource planning and the leisure counseling in the career of officers. The questionnaire inquisition was mainly conducted in this study. New cadets from the Military, Naval, Air Force Academy at four military schools were enrolled in this general investigation during the enlisted training of Military Academy in July 2014. There were totally 1500 pieces of the questionnaire
sending out, and 1237 of valid pieces were retrieved. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA, Post hoc tests and Pearson product-moment correlation, with SPSS for Windows 12.0. The research found out that the new students in military colleges in 2014 were mostly male high school graduates. The new students had high leisuredemands, and more structural leisure constraints. And new cadets with different individual background variables had different leisure demands. There was a difference in leisure constraints between different individual background variables of new cadets. Leisure demands and interpersonal constraints had significantly low negative correlations, and there were significantly low positive correlations between leisure demands and structural leisure constraints. Also, the demand of emotional venting and leisure constraints had significantly low positive correlations overall. Based on the above findings, this study provided additional suggestions of leisure planning in the career of army for new students, the military schools which hold the enlisted training, the schools they would go to in the future and the Ministry of National Defense.
