碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 地理學系 === 105 === The business district of Pingtung county Wandan township is called Wandan street on Qing dynasty. It was the first street that has commercial and administrative service in Pingtung plain. Wandan street is the center of Fu-Lao ethnicity in south Gang-Xi district. The circle of Wandan has differentiate by Ai-Liao river in 1920. The west side become Wandan township. The east side is the part of Zhutian township. Although it was divided,Wandan street play a role in commercial service. Wandan area has ritual activities between the divided area until today. What is the mechanism of Wandan area which link settlement? The methods of this research is by archives, maps and inscriptions analysis. The research aims to understand the settlement and administrative division of Wandan area. Second,the research aims to explore the life-support activities of Wandan area. Last, the research aims to analysis the link of settlement and social development. This research found that Wandan was the first street in Pingtung plain on Qing dynasty. This street plays an important role among Taiwanese plains aborigines, Hakka people and Minnan people in administration, business and faith. It was important for the leader of settlement to mediatise confliction in early reclamation. However, the connectivity of those settlement was not enough only the same geographic space. The Japanese colonial government promote many local administrative division in Taiwan. Wandan street set up local organ in 1920 where it became the center of this area. Unfortunately, The influence of Wandan decreases as Ai-Liao river east coast Minnan settlement. The township of Wandan has three living regions called Wan-dan, Sin-jhuang-zih and She-pi until today. Except for the north of Wandan appear rice cultivation that use groundwater spring, most life-support activities of Wandan is sugar cane cultivation before mid Japanese colonial rule. The sugar cane cultivation run from traditional handicraft to improved factory even big capital factory appears. The big capital factory near Wandan is A-Hou sugar factory that change life-support activities. Most of farmer who plant sugar cane transferred rice cultivation because of the irrigative channel building in last Japanese colonial rule. Wandan township manage 10 villages that was affiliated to Kaohsiung county Donggang district in 1920. Wandan township is different from other coastal township in Donggang district. The ground transportation is important than water transportation to Wandan since the mid Japanese colonial rule. The geographic space is more close than Donggang. Consequently, many Wandan’s resources flow to northern Pingtung city. After World War II, Wandan township once become one of Pingtung city district. No matter the administrative division change frequently, the regional cult of Wandan was like early administrative division of Japanese colonial rule. The Ai-Liao river east coast Minnan settlement regional cult link with Wandan until now. It is social relationship that continue administrative division.
