The purpose of this research is to study the design automated system of progressive dies for the automobile radiator cover. This research structure on 3D computer aided design software CATIA, and the application of VB programming language to do the re-development of CATIA for construction the design automation system, reduce the time of design by using the knowledge and the computerization advantage. Let engineers can more quickly and easily to design progressive dies. The concept of the system is divided into a number of program modules. The modules contains user interface, structural design of progressive die, assembly for standard libraries of progressive die, 2D Draw, Bill of Material, and instant display design of parts that in order to improve the system design flexibility, the system used the method to design structural of dies that make the appearance characteristic of base modules change with appearance characteristics of material. The system according to the input parameter on user interface and material data to do the structural design of progressive dies, assembly for standard libraries of progressive dies, 2D Draw, Bill of Material. Using the automobile radiator cover as an example to verify this system. The results showed that the system can significantly reduce the time of design and enhance the efficiency of die design.
