The population of women with the higher education and employment has increased, which has improved the status of women in workplace. However, the career development of women are easily affected by family or stereotype. Thus, there are few female senior managers in organizations. In order to balance the status of male and female population the company thus prioritizing women which resulted in reverse discrimination against males in promotion and treatment in organization. Thus, this study ues judgmental sampling to select six superiors in Taipei and Kaohsiung where are the top 2 value centers of hotel industy in Taiwan. Then adopts in-depth interviews as the methods of data collection.
The purpose of this study was to interview the male and female superiors of five-star hotels in Taipei area to gain deep informations concerning this issue. This study used stereotype to discuss Glass Ceiling Phenomenon in hotel industry, focusing on the leadership in both genders about their career process and obstacles (e.g., work experience, advancement development, working pressure, family conflict) and Reverse Discrimination (such as population of changing superiors’ gender). Results indicated that explored the effect of glass ceiling is fading away, but still exists. People connection and ability are playing important roles in promotion. Furthermore, it was found that the lower wage in hotels and ability of millennials would drive male out of this industry. Thus, in the future, female may dominate the hotels industry and play leading role, thus reverse discrimination is foreseeable.
