From previous studies, they concluded that second-language learners were unfamiliar with the basic form and facing difficulties in use of the Chinese reduplication. Notably, course materials are a crucial media between teachers and learners, and the relationship among these three factors is inseparable. However, the previous investigations mainly discussed on the usage errors from learners’ perspective. The relevance between Chinese reduplication and its textbooks has been rarely discussed. In this work, we organized and compared the texts of reduplication in two important textbooks—“Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 2nd Edition”and“New Practical Chinese Reader”—to examine the quantity and the ranking of grammar usage. Furthermore, we discussed the issue of proportionality between the grammars and texts in reduplications and organized the grammar meaning of Chinese reduplications in the textbooks. In this report, we present three important conclusions. Firstly, the teaching Chinese grammar points are not proportional to the texts in Chinese reduplication. Secondly, considering the text materials in the textbooks, some of the teaching grammars points correspond to the grammar levels, but others beyond the grammar levels. Third, compared to the base type, Chinese reduplication has a change to increase or decrease the degree, meanwhile, the grammatical meaning may influenced by the differences of the syntax position and sentence context. Therefore, in the textbooks, the illustration of teaching grammar points, should provide complete sentences for examples, and made students to fully understand its grammatical meaning. In this thesis, we examined and investigated the content materials based two textbooks—“Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 2nd Edition”and “New Practical Chinese Reader”—to provide a comprehensive perspective in Chinese reduplication for editors of textbooks in future.
