碩士 === 國防大學 === 中共軍事事務研究所 === 105 === The deterrence strategy of the PLA Rocket Force is inherited from ancient Chinese war thoughts and western military strategic thinking. Under the influence of internal and external environmental factors, China adopts an approach of using both nuclear and conventional warheads in its ballistic missiles for deterrence, while trying to achieve its strategic objectives of national defense. Under the impetus of military reform by CCP leader Xi Jinping, the PLA Rocket Force was upgraded to become an independent military service with enhanced capabilities, shaping a deterrence-oriented strategic significance at the end of 2015, aiming at the goals of the deterrence strategy, winning local information-centered warfare, guaranteeing national security and consolidating China’s status of a great power. This dissertation uses the structural functionalism “AGIL” concept analysis, Items such as adaptation, goal attainment, integration and Latent Pattern Maintenance function as variants of the study. We analyze the PLA Rocket Force in terms of economy, politics, law and culture institutional levels, to find out how the PLA Rocket Force exerts its functions to maintain the operation and development of the military system, and the benefits of achieving the three goals of the deterrence strategy. This will allow us to clarify not only the strategic significance for development of the PLA Rocket Force, but also highlight the practical use of theoretical research.
