Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 臺灣文化學系 === 105 === “Washi tape/Masking tape” comes across the seas from Japan. Due to unique characteristics, such as being easily torn off and cut down, or being used repeatedly without any traces, this feature makes it different from ordinary tapes. Also, with its various kinds of patterns and great styles, it gradually becomes popular in Taiwan, and many Taiwanese manufacturers have begun to follow this trend and to create “washi tape” with local characteristics. Not only consuming tapes, customers also create many instruments, such as mt maki maki (分裝器), packaging sheet, mt nano (隨身切割器) and storage boxes to share tapes to other customers. As a consumer, the author is quite interested in the attraction of this ‘small thing’, and would like to research how the small thing can evoke huge economic interests and becomes a part of “stationary culture”. With interviews, observation and participant observation, there are several topics discussed in this research. Firstly, the research elaborates various types and characteristics of washi tapes. Secondly, this research will also analyze different consumption spaces of washi tape, and this research will discuss social interaction and cultural interaction in consumption spaces of washi tape. Thirdly, I will explain different types of washi tape consumers, and analyze consumer behavior of washi tape of four process. Finally, I will also explain how consumers use washi tape in different spaces with various scales. By elaborating the consumers, consumption space, and relevant consumption practices of washi tapes in Taiwan, I attempt to make this research as a foundation of relevant researches in the future.
