However, whether such technology can help learning still remains controversial. Some researchers claim that having note-taking by typing, compared with by handwriting, an increase in efficient memorization with better performance on tests has been seen. Educators, as well, suggest that tablets can be integrated into teaching to enhance learning motivations. Nevertheless, others believe that being distracted by technology or merely copying the materials without thinking may have negative effects on academic performances. Regarding to the results of several studies, having note-taking by typing generally causes lower level of performance on tests. Nonetheless, previous research mostly compared the differences between typing and handwriting notes on academic performances. In those studies, they did not concern participants in terms of organizing the information. Therefore, aiming to let participants in both groups of note-taking by handwriting and by typing organize information at the same level, mind-mapping is included in this study to explore the differences of the recall performance. The findings reveal that firstly compared to the typing-note group, participants who take notes by hand retains higher level of performances. Secondly, the differences in volume of information intake do not cause the result to differ. Finally, the amount of ideas in mind-mapping note taking method and performance testing has low correlation. This study concludes that, ceteris paribus, note-taking by hand has better impact on performance than note-taking by computers, which is consistent with previous literature.
