A qualitative research approach was adopted; semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted on four newly wedded female Christians who had participated in pre-marital guidance and were still in the first year of their marriage. Their experiences in pre-marital guidance and of adjustments made along the different stages in marriage were retrospectively reviewed. The results are as follows: First, the essence of Christian premarital guidance can be categorized into 9 major themes: (1) premarital evolution; (2) lessons on marriage in biblical views; (3) understanding of gender differences and both family of origin; (4) promotion of bilateral relationships; (5) understanding of marital life and problems; (6) advancement of communication and conflict resolution skills; (7) stress and emotional management; (8) parenting; and (9) financial management. Such themes are included in premarital guidance at the prospect of strengthening the relationship between married couples as well as improving their ability of martial management in order for them to enter marriage successfully and enhance newlywed adjustments. Second, in the stage of marriage, female Christians encounter simultaneously three adjustment tasks: departing from the original family, bonding with the family-in-law, and stabilizing the relationship with their spouse. During the process of role conversion, facing the new roles of wife and daughter-in law with self-expectations and that of others, they are caught in between potential norms and self-independence. Such role adjustments vary dynamically along with differences in personal and life background, and is also influenced by the course of interaction. Third, in the process of reconciliation, Christianity encourages female Christians to adopt a positive attitude; when conflicts with their family or spouses occur, they are willing to model upon Jesus and learn to love each other, while adjusting themselves to advance harmonious relationships. Finally, according to the research findings, suggestions and recommendations were made for female Christians entering marriage, to formal and informal marriage education institutions, and for further related research in the future. Key words: Female Christians, pre-marital guidance, pre-marital adjustment 王以仁 學位論文 ; thesis 136 zh-TW
