Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 輔導與諮商學系所 === 105 === There are three purposes of this study, understanding the undergraduate schooling experience of students who are blind, how their past schooling experience affected their interpersonal relationship in the university, what difficulties they faced in building interpersonal relationship with others in the university and how they coped with these stresses. This study use in-depth interview to collect the schooling experience of one junior student and three undergraduate students.
The findings of undergraduate schooling experience of students who are blind were as following: (1) They didn’t expect anything about getting into universities. (2) After they got into their universities, they felt unaccommodated.(3) Students who are blind had difficulties in academic learning and establishing relationships, and these two things affects each other. Students who are blind prefer finishing their group project by themselves in order to cut off the connection between academic and peer relationship.(4) Pair-relationship is common in students who are blind. Pair-relationship ensures their needs of assistance, and it can be the good base to establish new relationships. However, when the pair-relationship is too rigid, it can also restrict their opportunity from making new friends.(5) Students who are blind eager to establishing relationship without single-aspect assistance, but this kind of relationship often happens in their friendships with other disable people.(6) Positive interpersonal experiences let students who are blind become confident in building relationship with others, making them willing to meet more people.(7) Most students who are blind valued the relationship with their disable friends,and how they invest their times in establishing relationships with disable or non-disable people is affected by their past schooling experiences.(8) Guide dogs have positive and negative effects on the guide dog users’ interpersonal relationship.(9) Resourse Classroom teachers,teachers in class and school rules affected their schooling experiences of students who are blind.(10) The precious experiences and relationships are the most important parts they got in their university studies .
The findings of how their past schooling experience affected their interpersonal relationship in the university are as following: (1) Different schooling experience before getting into their universities created different abilities in establishing interpersonal relationship.(2) Students who studied in normal school have already learned how to deal with non-visual impairment peers before they entered the university. On the other hand,students who studied in special education school learned more about understanding their visual loss,and how they can do with their limitations.(3) Students who studied in special education school found out that the different degree of visual loss splits the class into groups,so they soon understood it is hard to make friends with non-visual impairment students.
There are three kinds of difficulties they faced in building interpersonal relationship with others in their universities,and how they tried to cope with these difficulties.First,the difficuties of widely school enviroment and the limitation of themselves makes them difficult to build relationship with others.Most students who are blind were working very hard by taking the initiative in making friends, and also joining the school activities to meet more people.Second, due to the misunderstanding of others, they won’t make friends with the students who are blind.Most students who are blind indicated that it is importent to tell others about what they can and can’t do in their cooperation, and what assistances they need by others. Third, there are worries about always being assisted by others.The independent ability is important in this aspect, and if they can give something back to people who helped them,the relational connection between them will be stable.
The implication and suggestions for students who are blind want to study in the university, educators, university counselors, university’s political plaining and future studies were addressed.
