Summary: | 碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 復健諮商研究所 === 105 === This present study aims at exploring the experience of the Christian faith for the adults with disabilities. A purposive sampling method is adopted to select three adults with disabilities who are over 20 years old and believe in Christianity more than one year as the subjects in the study.
The study used the qualitative approach, the depth interview, as the research method to interview three participants’ experiences of Christian faith and the adaptation to disability. With the support and guidance of Christian faith, the participants gradually reach the adaptation to disability. Through the adaptation process of disabilities, their faith in Christianity are strengthened and their relationships with God became closer. In terms of the impacts of Christian faith on the participants’ adaptation to disabilities, three dimensions are analyzed: physical adaptation, psychological adaptation, and social connection. Praying to God for curing were all found at the beginning for three participant, though it failed, their faiths turn their attitude of disability, improve their self- esteem, and accept the disabilities positively, not only regarding their disabilities as a blessing, but also fulfilling their spiritual support and strength. When they encounter suffering and ordeal in their life, they, with faith in God, can change their perspective to face these difficulties and challenges. Church provide the social connection for the three participants. They are all accepted and accompanied in the friendly environment of the church. Through serving in the church, they re-acquire confidence and share their personal life experience to help and encourage other people in order to honor what God brings to them in their life.
According to the results of the study, the researcher provides suggestions to the people with disabilities and the colleagues in the church for the benefit and well adaptation of the people with disabilities.
