Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立體育大學 === 體育推廣學系 === 105 === This study probes into the association between sleep quality and physical activity in preschool children. One hundred and four preschoolers from three kindergartens in Taoyuan City participated in the current study. Parents of the preschoolers reported their children’s sleep quality. Pedometers were used to track children’s daily physical activity levels over five days. This study first employed descriptive statistics to analyze background information for both children and their primary caregivers. Further statistical analyses including Spearman/Pearson correlation, independent sample t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression were utilized to examine whether children’s and their primary caregivers’ background, sleep habit can predict their overall sleep quality and physical activity levels. Results of this study indicated the followings: First, frequent soures of sleep disturbances including snoring, somniloquy, bed-wetting can be observed among preschoolers. Preschoolers’ average sleep time assessed in the current study is around eight hours and fourty-eight minutes. Preschoolers’ average physical activity levels are around 2295 steps, in which boys have steps slightly greater steps than girls; second, primary caregivers who are older, who have higher education level, who go to bed and wake up earlier, their children tend to have better sleep quality; third, children who have longer sleep time, who go to bed earlier, and who encounter less disruptions during slumber lead to better overall sleep quality; forth, children who have better sleep quality tend to have higher activity levels. Children’s physical activity levels are mainly predicated by their bedtime and sleep quality. Finally, based on the above mentioned findings, recommendations are made for primary caregivers and preschool teachers regarding the impact on children’s physical activity levels from their sleep quality. By increasing children’s physical activity levels via better sleep quality, their developmental growth can be sufficiently enhanced in various aspects.
