The free throw skills and the hit rate of 20 free throws were evaluated and calculated. The HRVs of participants were continuously monitored through wearing devices. Finally, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted separately for free throw skills, hit rate and HRV to determine the effect of stress levels on the free throw performance. Post-hoc comparison was carried out with alpha level set at 0.05. The results indicated that no significant difference of stress levels on either free throw skills (F = 1.283, p = .284) or the hit rate (F = 1.491, p = .232). Additionally, the reward and penalty types that are commonly utilized training methods by coaches did not differ from the relax type (F = 2.659, p = .078). In future research, it is worth to investigate the stress levels of basketball performance on different populations. The results of the current study also implied that coaches should consider whether the training methods they utilized could achieve the results they want.
