A Research on the Compilation and Teaching Application of Basic-level Chinese Materials for Cabin Crews

碩士 === 國立暨南國際大學 === 華語文教學碩士學位學程 === 105 === True language situation and corpus are very important to the teachers when designing Chinese language materials for Chinese Specific Purpose (CSP) materials. In this research, I have developed one Chinese language teaching material for CSP, entitled “Aviation Chinese - For Listening and Speaking” which is for basic level learners who are foreign crew members. The vocabularies that had been selected and used in the dialogues in Aviation Chinese - For Listening and Speaking were based on “Chinese 8,000 Vocabularies” and true corpus to simulate the authentic language situation. The guidelines of the compilation of Aviation Chinese - For Listening and Speaking follows Liu Xun’s(1994) theory of Chinese language teaching materials design. In addition, the suggestions of teachers for CSP and the needs of the foreign crew members were taken into account. Their suggestions and needs were collected by the interviews and questionnaires. All the dialogues in Aviation Chinese – For Listening and Speaking create a simulation of a commercial flight flying from Taipei to Bangkok. Due to the nature of the crew members’ works schedule, Aviation Chinese – For Listening and Speaking focuses on improving and enhancing the crew members’ Chinese listening and speaking abilities within a short period of time. The teaching method that is suggested to of Aviation Chinese - For Listening and Speaking is Six T’s Approach supplemented by Task-Based Learning (TBLL), Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and Situational Approach. Six flight attendants participated this research and take 8-hour lessons of Aviation Chinese – For Listening and Speaking, they were required to preview the vocabularies before class and learned the grammars in the class. After analyzing all data derived from this research, it is convinced that Aviation Chinese – For Listening and Speaking met the need of the crew members who participated the Chinese lessons. According to the feedbacks of all participants, they all agree that the dialogues in Aviation Chinese – For Listening and Speaking are authentic and practical In Sum, this research proves that the materials design for CSP Chinese language class required authentic language and practical dialogues are important. I then propose in this research that the guidelines of designing Chinese language materials for cabin crews who are basic-level learners and its practical teaching methods of such Chinese language materials.
