| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 都市計劃學系 === 105 === In recent years, the urban population decline trend had not only become a common phenomenon but also changed the structure of economy and industry; therefore the issue of “Shrinking Cities” was paid attention by the international. In addition, “Shrinking Cities” had been reoriented and given a different explanation of urban development track. Because of the factors of the environment, cities would show specific impacts in the different background, which contains history, economy, and society and so on. Go through these local features, we could explain that the shrinking cities have impact on the urban environment and the social structure.
However, at the present time, most of shrinking cities studies were divided the shrinkage type between population and economy, and seldom of them were discussed from other aspects. Moreover, in terms of the shrinking cities assumption which was based on the local characteristics showed the different trajectories in distinct regions. Thus, this study would discuss the shrinking cities in Taiwan via the population and the economic development. Furthermore, we would also investigate its shrinking trajectories through the structure of population, urban and industry, and provide some development advices on the basis of trajectory types.
In conclusion, it showed that Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Taitung County, and Hualien County were the shrinking counties in Taiwan. Each county faced different shrinking issues. And the background of Taiwan shrinking cities was different from Western countries. Compared to economic field, the changes of demographic structure were the main issue in Taiwan.
