The second chapter analyzes the transformation of children’s image and mentality in the trilogy of Children of the Saltpans. This chapter will first discuss the social environment that the children in the novels are met with and then compare and contrast their images and mentalities. The third chapter deals with Taipei Main Station and Seaside. This chapter begins with an analysis of the space imagery of Taipei city, followed by the discussion of urban sense of time and Tsai Suh-Fen’s city writing. Then the focus of this chapter shifts to the rural immigrants in Seaside, analyzing, through the perspective of marine cultures, the characters in this novel and the implications of interpersonal relationship. This chapter ends in the comparison of Taipei Main Station and Seaside, discussing the trajectory of Tsai Suh-Fen’s rural/urban writings. The forth chapter deals with the series of Sister Pang novels and Candlelight Banquet. This chapter discusses the motif of veteran’s village in “The New Year in Water-Source Village” and explores how Tsai Suh-Fen describes the life in a veteran’s village by the viewpoint of a local Taiwanese. Then this chapter discusses the female bildungsroman in “The Spring and Autumn of Bai,” exploring Tsai Suh-Fen’s creative intention of describing personal lives in big times. Then this chapter moves on to Candlelight Banquet, discussing the different styles of love and destiny of the three main characters and explaining the theme of Candlelight Banquet through a comparison with the series of Sister Pang novels. The sixth chapter is the conclusion.
