The number of studies related to book design has increased in recent years; however, little research has explored this phenomenon from the perspective of Kansei image and sensory experience. Therefore, this study is aimed toward an exploration of Kansei images that readers experience from different paper book cover materials through visual perception, visual-tactile perception, and tactile perception. In this study, 65 participants were required to score the accuracy of 13 paper specimens on conveying 9 Kansei book content images through visual perception, visual-tactile perception, and tactile perception. Then, a multivariate regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between the 9 Kansei images and 6 paper characteristics, including hue, texture, luster, smoothness, moisture level, and bending. According to the results of this study, Kansei images of books can be divided into four groups based on their matching paper characteristics. Group1: “active and changeable” is characterized by irregular lines and rich tactile feedback; Group 2: “soft and simple” focuses on natural paper texture; Group 3: “quiet and calm” refers to a clean, plain surface; Group 4: “elegant and refined” refers to a delicate texture and the level of glossiness. Furthermore, there are three relationships among the four Kansei image groups, including overlap, opposition, and independence. When there is a need for a cross-group Kansei image application, the complete book cover image could be conveyed by utilizing other design elements, such as color, font, and graphic. Lastly, based on the perception stage where a Kansei image can be effectively conveyed, Kansei images are also divided into 3 types including “visual type, “partially visual type,” and “partially tactile type.” Keywords: Book Design, Paper Material, Kansei Image, Visual-Tactile Perception, Sensory Experience Chun-Heng Ho 何俊亨 2019 學位論文 ; thesis 204 en_US |
