According to the criterion of the World Health Organization, Taiwan is classified as an aging society. There are many studies discussing about the topic of aging or health care village in Taiwan. We did not find any other research that investigates whether the demand factors of health care village are different between urban and suburb elder citizen. The main concern of this study is to know how to build a suitable health care village which matches with local culture by construction industry. In this study, we use questionnaire to survey the demand factors of health care village of the people who live in Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou. The sample is divided into urban area and suburb area by population density. Then we apply Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to evaluate the construction decision of health care village.
The survey includes three processes. Firstly, it is an expert opinion questionnaire to ask 23 experts for five industries. We use extreme mean to select demand factors and retain 36 items which are used to construct factor analysis.
In the second stage, factor analysis questionnaire is enforced to the people who are over the age of 50 of seniors and the residents over 20 years old for potential consumers in Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou. 350 questionnaires are issued and 312 are valid. The result of factor analysis includes two parts. There are four main factors and 15 sub-criteria in urban area and four main factors and 13 sub-criteria in suburb area. The order of the four main criteria is life independent dimension, medical care, leisure and recreation, service and management in urban area. Relatively, there are service and management, life independent dimension, leisure and recreation, and medical care in suburb.
Finally, this research constructs four programs of health care village and creates a paired comparison questionnaire to rank them by 10 experts. The result of research suggests that there are elder apartment (37.19%), alliance nursing and rehabilitation (21.94%), LOHAS daycare center (20.83%), leisure and holidays type (20.04%) in order in urban area. The rank of suburb area is LOHAS daycare center (39.32%), leisure and holidays type (26.06%), alliance nursing and rehabilitation (17.93%), and elder apartment(16.69%).
