To meet these substantial demands, a greater amount of competent personnel is required in the IT industry. With rapid changes in the IT industry and the corporate goal of creating economic value in a competitive environment, employees' professional work performance affects organizational performance. Professional competence cognition also affects personal and organizational performance. SPSS 21.0 and the partial least squares (PLS) analysis were employed in the present study, and empirical analysis was conducted to identify factors that are related to IT employees’ competence cognition and how these factors influence organizational performance. The results of the empirical analysis indicated that the most critical aspects of competence cognition for employees in the IT industry include (1) professional competence cognition, which is an understanding of the features of rivaling companies’ products; (2) core competence cognition, which is the ability to communicate and coordinate to one’s best ability, thereby leading other coworkers to embrace changes; and (3) management competence cognition, which is capable of managing a company (unit) that is disciplined and demonstrates performance. Aspects of competence cognition that require the most enhancement include (1) knowledge competence cognition, which represents an understanding that an individual’s knowledge is limited, and a constant absorption of knowledge from others, (2) skill competence cognition, which refers to clearly confirming and understanding the client’s demands before strongly marketing the company’s products, (3) attitude competence cognition, which refers to the capability of self-improving computer skills in one’s professional field to facilitate solving problems without having been asked to do so. Employees in the IT industry should possess and strengthen the aforementioned aspects of competence cognition to enhance work performance and thereby elevating the company’s competitiveness.
