Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 國際政治研究所 === 105 === The purpose of this study is to examine state strategies for the development of a strong movie industry and the effect of soft power on societies. This study first defines soft power and observes its production and influence on other great powers before observing the case of South Korean soft power and the development of its movie industry. Based on the observations, this study discusses reasons for the success of South Korea’s movie industry and the influence of South Korean soft power on different societies. This study is carried out in three parts: part 1 discusses the definition of soft power and its role in international relations; part 2 observes cultural policies adopted by the South Korean government in different time periods, especially the role of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) in providing resources and personnel training; part 3 will discuss how the glamour of Korean movie stars, the diversity of storylines and successful marketing strategies jointly realize the success of Korean movies and soft power in different societies.
