The development of sea power and maritime strategy has drawn attentions from the related nations. This study aims to interpret China’s motives to develop sea power from the perspective of geopolitics ,and seeks to assess the intent and action of developing maritime capability. Finally, the study brings up the impacts of China’s developing sea power on the Asia-Pacific regional security. It concludes that China’s development of sea power is based on ensuring the national interest and continuing country development. The purpose is to achieve the maintenance of maritime rights and to handle the disputes over ocean resources, island sovereignty, territorial water boundaries, and sea transportation lines. However, China develops sea power, it may create security dilemmas among regional countries and further to impair the strategic balance in the Asia-Pacific.
