First, on Taiwanese-Japanese science fiction bestsellers “Taiwanese Miracle” by Ping Lu and “The End of the World Except Japan” by Tsutsui Yasutaka, I examine the appearance of Taiwanese and Japanese subjectivity under the wave of capitalist globalization. Second, on Chou Jin-Po’s “Volunteer Soldiers”, a work of imperialist literature during the Japanese colonial period, I consider how the Taiwanese people’s consciousness evolved toward Japan on the changes of time and social systems. Finally, on Wei Te-sheng’s “Cape No. 7”, I explore the appearances of Taiwanese and Japanese subjectivity. Although the cultural transportation from Taiwan to Japan has been small in quantity, this thesis hopes to further explore the factors behind this cultural flow. In summary, in chapter two Taiwanese author Ping Lu’s “Taiwanese Miracle” and Japanese novelist Tsutsui Yasutaka’s “The End of the World Except Japan” describe that the Taiwanese “miracle” is to spreading out abroad as the Japanese “end” is to contracting inward. These Taiwanese-Japanese authors’ consciousness toward the end of the world are the most fundamental differences in Taiwanese and Japanese subjectivity. Through “Chapter Three – Evolution in Taiwanese consciousness toward Japan, on Chou Jin-Po’s Volunteer Soldiers” and “Chapter Four – Taiwanese and Japanese subjectivity: on Wei Te-sheng’s Cape No. 7”, in different eras, settings, and groups of people, I further explore the appearances of Taiwanese subjectivity’s “miracle” and Japanese subjectivity’s “end”. Taiwanese subjectivity’s expression changes constantly, passing beyond previous binary conceptions including Japanese mocking and Japanese flattery, post-colonials and Taiwanese nationals, the West and East Asia, local consciousness and globalization, and good and bad and high and low are becoming increasingly indistinct. How Taiwanese subjectivity will continue to develop, which influences Taiwan, Japan, China, and other East Asian countries’international relationships, are things worthy of consideration.
