In this study, function analysis and cause-effect chain analysis were used to find out the cause of the detector failure. The pump failure is the main cause of the detector failure, and the aging of the rubber rings is the dominating reason of the pump failure. Heat and oxygen are the factors that cause aging. Due to the reason mentioned above, we designed a protection box to separate heat and oxygen away from the rubber rings by using contradiction matrix and inventive principles.
