Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用英語學系碩士在職專班 === 105 === The purpose of this study was to investigate foreign sales representatives’ (FSRs’) types of motivation and use of learning strategies, and the relationship between extrinsic/intrinsic motivation and learning strategies and English proficiency. Deci’s (1985) self-determination and Oxford’s (1990) six language learning strategies were adapted to analyze types of motivation and strategy use. Oxford’s strategy inventory for language learning and Noels’ language learning orientations scale – intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, and amotivation subscale (LLOS-IEA) (motivational scale) were used. A total of 51 participants were involved in this study. The data included descriptive statistics, means, standard deviation, t-value, and Pearson correlation gained by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 18.0. The results showed that the most frequent type of motivation is identified motivation. Social strategies were most frequently used by FSRs, whereas memory strategies were least frequently used. Additionally, significant correlation between FSRs’ motivation and learning strategies was found. According to the results of this study, some implications can be provided for future FSR English training courses. It is believed that if learners identify the importance of learning English in this field and enjoy English learning, then learners can become more competent in dealing with their daily work and persistent in learning English. Overall, there is a demand for accentuating English in Taiwan.
