Summary: | 碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 數位媒體設計學系碩士班 === 105 === The rapid IT advancement in recent years has changed the public access to culture. The evolution of digitization technology has given rise to the development of the permanent preservation of cultural assets. The digital archiving of historical artifacts, such as monuments, ancient books, and ancient paintings thus became an important issue. Virtual reality (VR) technology has been widely used in this area for its ability to simulate vision and hearing senses and enable high interaction with the virtual environment, making it suitable for being a medium for the digital preservation of cultural assets. With Shijing (the Classic of Poetry) as an example, this study selected the commonly known Jianjia (the Reeds and Rushes) from the Odes of Qin to investigate the possibility of digital presentation with VR. At the beginning, this study surveyed the public opinions and expectations on combining VR with cultural heritage preservation and guided tours as the criteria of virtual environment design. Then, this study produced a digitized cultural asset with functions for preservation, a guided tour, and research with the Unity3D game engine and HTC VIVE. In addition, this study interviewed respondents to investigate the cognitive effect of users on digitizing poems in Shijin. This study found that a guided tour of the poem’s settings with VR can help respondents understand better and find more interest in Shijing
and promote their cultural identification. Research findings show that VR is suitable for use in the digital preservation, guided tour, and academic research of cultural assets in the future. This study also made recommendations for the future application of VR in cultural preservation.
