博士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用中國文學系 === 105 === China has a time-honored history on the research of war, and the knowledge of war-researching is called as “Strategics”. The book that records theory and demonstration is called “book on the art of war”. There is a large amount of books on the art of war in China. They have their uniqueness in world military-science. The most representative book which was written by Saint Soldier Sun Wu is The Art of War. It has more than 6000 words in total. Although it is short, it has the profound morality and the accumulation of human’s wisdom of the war. In addition, Zuo Zhuan, China’s first great work of history, records the history of Spring and Autumn Period (722 BC—481BC). It has high credibility and complete information. In search of Zuo Zhuan, it must have high value on strategic. If we use the thorough history recording from Zuo Zhuan, to collect the similarities with The Art of War, we can certainly see the plentiful thoughts connotated in ancient strategics. Zuo Zhuan and The Art of War are categorized into several parts by posterity. Although they are different academic classifications, they have the same purpose on discussing life wisdom. By collecting and organizing these two books’ similar characteristics for comparison, we can determine that Zuo Zhuan and The Art of War share comprehensiveness and homogeneity. This would be helpful for understanding the wisdom of human culture and values. It would not only enrich the content of strategics’ knowledge but also act as a reference for living in safety. The concept of this thesis is developed from The Art of War and Zuo Zhuan. The content is separated into six parts, and the emphasis lies in Chapter 4, Chapter 5, and the conclusion. The introduction and Chapter 1, explain the motivation, purpose, and method of research, and the predecessor's research achievement. In Chapter 2, the literature review focus on finding clues from these two books to delve into the documents and expand it to form a logical system of completion for this thesis. Chapter 3 takes former worthies’ knowledge and the cumulation of experiences as basic research background to pursue the objectivity and integrity. Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 elaborate on the principle of strategies and the relationship between different level of strategies and war execution. Chapter 5 describes purpose and pattern of the war and the factors necessary to be a winner in war, and collect example of war that has common ground between Zuo Zhuan and The Art of War to elaborate on it. There may be thousands kind of reasons leading up to a particular event in history. In addition, the causes may not necessarily connect to the event. Besides using accurate textual study to corroborate history and draw on the experience from history, both the inspiration and implication of history should not be ignored. I elucidate the ancients’ refined wisdom from the common logic in Zuo Zhuan and The Art of War, and give it new interpretation, and hope to make a contribution to the classical document research and find a way how to settle down and enjoy my life.
