Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 商業設計學系設計創作與研究碩士班 === 105 === In recent years, environment related issues have gained much attention internationally; the impact of rainforest degradation has led to extinction of species; global warming has affected the balance of the ecosystem. However, when the public is looking into global environmental problems, people seem to ignore the fact that beautiful living creatures in Taiwan are also vanishing gradually. This thesis takes protected birds endemic to Taiwan as the element of design, utilizing optical illusions to create umbrella patterns. Optical illusions stimulate viewers visually as well as give them pleasure psychologically, and the product of such creativity is what people would use in their daily lives – an umbrella. The weather in Taiwan is mostly sunny, but the island is also subject to a lot of rain. It is common that everyone brings an umbrella with themselves. By revealing patterns of natural ecosystems on umbrellas, the message that natural environment and humans’ place are closely related is to be conveyed. In the thesis, seven kinds of birds are selected: the Taiwan blue pheasant (Lophura swinhoii,) Ryūkyū scops-owl (Otus elegans,) Mikado pheasant (Syrmaticus Mikado,) maroon oriole (Oriolus traillii,) Formosan yellow tit (Machlolophus holsti,) Styan's bulbul (Pycnonotus taivanus,) and Taiwan hwamei (Garrulax taewanus.) Through data collection and analysis, the principle of the pattern design and its creation is set. You may find the sample of the actual design in Chapter 5.
