Compared with 3G infrastructures, LTE has higher capacity and data transmission rate. Due to the power limitation of User Equipment (UE) , how to prolong LTEUE usage time becomes one of the most important issues in LTE technology development. In LTE networks, Discontinuous Reception Mode (DRX) allows the UE to enter the power saving mode when data is not received. Because non-real-time applications are insensitive to data communication delay ,this paper proposes a priority scheme for the DRX mechanism in order to improve the power efficiency of an UE in LTE networks. In simulation, we use several parameters to test our proposal and the original power saving mechanism, and evaluate their performances with power saving and delay time as metrics.
