Abstract
The aim of this study is to compare and contrast the effects of classroom management, work engagement and satisfaction for Kaohsiung municipal elementary school teachers on their current work situation under the impact of generally declining birth rate. The analysis also provided the results of differentiation based on the teachers’ background information. With questionnaire investigation, data were collected using cluster sampling from the elementary school teachers which were sent 420 copies and resulted in 411 valid with 97% effective rate in return. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, regression analysis using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences ( SPSS). The major findings are presented as follows:
1. The majority of group surveyed are female teachers with the age range from 41 to 50 which are mostly holding a graduate degree. The length of career service mostly fall into the category of 16-30 years with marital status married. The majority of the surveyed group are homeroom teachers which are mostly from the schools of the classroom sizes ranged from 13-36.
2. The effects of classroom management, work engagement and satisfaction for the Kaohsiung municipal teachers on their current work situation under the phenomenon of declining birth rate showed above median level of significance.
3. The teachers investigated in different personal backgrounds had achieved significant differences in school sizes related with work engagement and satisfaction as a whole. The significant differences were also showed between classroom management and job title compared with the other variables of no significant differences.
4. The study indicated there was high significance level in work satisfaction associated with Kaohsiung municipal teachers’ work engagement.
5. The study indicated there was high significance level in classroom management associated with Kaohsiung municipal teachers’ work engagement.
6. The study indicated there was high significance level in classroom management associated with Kaohsiung municipal teachers’ work satisfaction.
7. The work satisfaction was affected by the differences of work engagement based on the classroom management.
