| Summary: | 碩士 === 高苑科技大學 === 資訊科技應用研究所 === 105 === This study mainly inquired into the necessity of providing after-school care service for public primary schools in Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County. The main objectives are: (1) To investigate the current situation of after-school care services in the four primary schools in Liuqiu Township, Pingtung County, the actual needs and views from the care-givers, and the obstacles present in the services. (2) To investigate the opinions from all parents of the school children regarding the services in Liuqiu Township.
This study mainly utilized questionnaire surveys to collect data of the following subjects. (1) Current state of the "after-school care" program in the views from the students, parents, homeroom teachers, teachers and administrative staff who are involved in the service in the last semester of the 2016-2017 academic year. (2) To obtain all parents' views, regardless their current status of participation in the services, on their actual needs of the after-school cares. Results obtained were statistically analyzed using SPSS, including frequency distribution, percentage, t test and One-way analysis of variance. The study concluded the following major results:
1.Students like after-school care, with the evaluation of after-school care being positive; but the students showed the lack of confidence on their performance.
2.For whom participating in the program, the parents preferred the schools to provide 4 or 5 days of after-school care services, while the teachers leaned toward having after-school care arrangements for 2 days in a week.
3.Students participating in the after-school care expressed the desire to include more extracurricular activities outside of doing homework.
4.Different family members with their children participating in the after-school care had distinctively different opinion on whether “the curriculum is interesting or not”.
5.Mothers of different occupational groups showed significantly different extent of satisfaction on the following three survey subjects: "types of activities offered", "adequate physical activity opportunities" and "children do well on their homework".
6.Most parents in this study region have high school degree as their highest education. The majority of the parents provide little effort on their children's academic problems, and expressed difficulty to assist their children's learning problems.
7.Most parents only viewed their children’s academic performance to decide whether let their children participate in after-school care.
8.The majority of parents, regardless their participation of the program, indicated that the number of days of after-school care services should be only 2 to 3 days in a week. For after-school care, the children should be classified by their ages. Few parents expressed opinion on their cost to participate in the services.
Based on the results obtained in this study, I put forward some suggestions for the educational authorities, school administration, and future researchers, in hope that this will be helpful to promote the after-school care service in the future.
