However, data can be eavesdropped and tampered with during transmission. To solve the issues, the researchers often use data hiding technique to achieve the goals. Generally speaking, data hiding can be divided into two categories: steganography and digital watermarking. The steganography methods are capable of hiding a large number of secret bits in host media while maintain a good (or acceptable) perceived quality. A major drawback of the methods is prone to damage. That is, an intended receiver would fail to extract the hidden message even if a slight alteration was imposed on the marked media. On the other hand, digital watermarking schemes are focus on robustness performance and have been designed to protect the copyright and the proof of the ownership. But, most of digital watermarking provided either a limited payload or the resultant perceptual quality is not good enough. In this thesis, we propose a robust and high-capacity watermarking scheme for color images (and gray-scale images) based on square-root-modulus technique. Experimental results confirmed that the payload for the proposed method is superior to existing techniques while the resulting PSNR is not bad. Moreover, the proposed method is robust against a variety of attacks, such as brightness, contrast, edge sharpening, cropping, JPEG/ JPEG2000 compressions, noise addition, truncation, and winding.
