Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄應用科技大學 === 工業工程與管理系 === 105 === USA is the biggest market for Vietnamese cashew kernels; however, the increasing competition on the marketplace due to the entrance of new players from Brazil, India or West Africa makes it mandatory to fully assess the situation and improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese cashew kernel exported into the USA market. Thus, there are two key focuses in this thesis, including: (1) clarifying the general theory of competitiveness in terms of the concept of competition, competitiveness and export competitiveness; and (2) proposing the evaluation criteria for competitive research base for the subject. Moreover, the need to enhance the competitiveness of Vietnam's cashew kernel products exported to the USA market is especially strengthened because USA is the key market to be further expanded to overcome the fierce competition on the marketplace as well as the limitations existing in the competitiveness of Vietnam's cashew kernel export.
This thesis employs different approaches in analyzing and assessing the government of competitiveness of Vietnam's cashew kernel products exported to the USA market, comparing with competitors in the market like Brazil, India or West Africa. Specifically, it is found that although Vietnam has the certain advantages in natural conditions, climate, abundant and cheap labor forces, several weaknesses such as low cashew kernel quality, mainly exports cashew kernel as dried products, less processed, less species richness, less diversity, less largely export-mediated, etc. have degraded the competitiveness of the cashew kernel. Moreover, based on the basis of forecast about the demand of USA cashew kernel market and SWOT matrix, the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges are identified; thus, the objectives and orientations for the period up to 2020 are established.
More importantly, this thesis has proposed a number of suggestions to improve the competitiveness of Vietnamese cashew kernel products exported to the USA market and enhance cashew kernel quality and food safety, diversification of product structure, organize a tighter coordination of activities in cashew kernel export sector, develop distribution channels to USA, brand for Vietnam cashew kernel products exported to the USA and create funds for investment, purchasing, processing and exporting cashew kernel to the USA.
