The underwater environment is stressful for the divers, especially for beginners because aquatic area is unfamiliar and potentially dangerous. The stability of the mood and correct judgment ability during the diving is important. In order to verify the relationship between anxiety, basic scuba diving performances, and frontal asymmetry on EEG for scuba diving beginners, the aims of this study were: (1) use the trait anxiety to predict basic scuba diving performances in diving beginners; (2) use the Stroop test to compare the difference between high anxious and low anxious divers in their correct rate and response time; and (3) compare the difference in frontal asymmetry on EEG before and after diving. 13 scuba diving beginners were recruited in this study. After 8 weeks training course, they were instructed to complete basic scuba diving performances, including mask clearing, buddy breathing, regulator retrieval, and buoyancy control. They received the Stroop test on land and under water. The data of EEG before and after diving were collected. The findings in the present study verified the correlation between mask clearing and anxiety for scuba diving beginners. There was not difference on the basic scuba diving performances between high anxious and low anxious groups. For underwater Stroop test, there was not difference on the correct rate between high anxious and low anxious groups but high anxious divers took more time.
