Parkinson''s disease is caused by the damage of nerve cells in the basal ganglia structures in the brain damaged caused. The dopamine (neurotransmitter) is an organic chemical generated by the substantia nigra of the brain cells, is a required neurotransmitter for the normal movement. When mesencephalic substantia nigra cells die, it is failed to produce and transmit dopamine, follows by motion signal cannot transmit. Hence, it will cause tremors and muscle rigidity as symptoms of Parkinson''s disease patients. Tremors of arm and leg, muscle rigidity and body flexion in resting stage will present as well. This thesis aimed to use the magnetic susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) and multi echo data imaging combination (MEDIC) magnetic resonance imaging to evaluate the etiology resulting from degradation or other factors of PD for suspected Parkinson''s disease patients. All the experiments were performed using Siemens 3T Skyra MRI scanners. 10 cases identified as suspected Parkinson''s disease patients through clinical diagnosis were recruited to perform SWI and MEDIC scans to investigate the causes of PD. The preliminary results were interpreted by radiologists and found that nigrosomes in basal ganglia of can be clearly discriminate patients with movement disorders which identified as non-degenerative causes on images. It is most likely the movement disorder was caused by degeneration if the substantia nigra cannot be clearly identified on the images after the motion artifacts were excluded. This study might provide radiologist more accurate diagnosis and proper treatment planning for PD patients. Po-Chou Chen 陳博洲 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 89 zh-TW
