Summary:碩士 === 弘光科技大學 === 老人福利與事業研究所 === 105 === The purpose of this study was to examine the happiness and education, career, personality traits, economic conditions, health status, religion of the elderly in central Taiwan in view of the aging of the population brought by the an accelerated aging society. A qualitative in-depth interview was adopted to collect the data about beliefs, relationships, leisure activities, living environment, interpersonal relationships, and social supports to understand how they affect the elderly well-being. In this study, 16 elderly people in central Taiwan was interviewed for 30-70 minutes. Interview data were processed by recording, transcribing, coding, and then extracting the important ideas and themes. Findings were presented based on these research ideas and themes. The results of the study are as follows: For the elderly people, level of education will not affect the level of happiness. Personality traits, economic conditions, health conditions, religious beliefs, family relations and alienation, leisure activities, participation od activities, living environment, interpersonal relationship, social supports, regrets, current feelings, and things to accomplish all will have affected the sense of well-being.
