The main complexities of family caregiving often involve money and power, which tend to be worsened by gender difference and power struggle.
Used in-depth interviews with 10 women caregivers of adults with intellectual disabilities to investigate the impact of work and caregiving stress on their physical and mental health, financial situation, social involvement as well as work performance.
The study concluded that the factors affecting women caregivers caring for their family members with intellectual disabilities include:
1. male sovereignty taking precedence over economic sovereignty.
2.traditional ideology of male domination.
3.how to continue with and share caring responsibilities in the future.
