Description
Summary:碩士 === 華梵大學 === 建築系在職專班 === 105 === Shiding mountain street is located on the shallow mountains and hills area in the southeast of the northern Taipei area, which is part of the northern ranch mountain of Xueshan Range. Jingmei River and its tributary flow through this rea. This area, belonged to Ciyuanshan Bao in Qing Dynasty, was the hunting rea of Siron settlement of Pingpu tribe and Atayal tribe. During Jiaqin Period of Qing Dynasty, the Han people did land clearing in Shiding along the river and formed a settlement at the convergence of Bengshan Stream and Utu Stream. The early settlers lived in the houses built along the river and used the aterials they found there to build stone houses. The early settlers’ ainstakingly reclamation of Shiding was written into the history and the specific life styles also remain.Shiding mountain street was the transportation hub between Tamsui and Kavalan because of its specific geographic location for convenient water transportation. Therefore, it became an important distribution center of goods and a place of frequent business travels. The industry development brought Shiding mountain street flourishing; west street developed with tea industry, east street with coal mining industry. Afterward water transportation was substituted by land transportation due to the siltation. Shiding was no longer the transportation hub after the construction of Pinxi Branch Line and Chiang Wei-shui Memorial Freeway. Then, the coal mines were closed so Shiding completely became peripheral area. Its brilliant past can only be seen from the relics and be heard from the local seniors. The field research suggests that young people are not willing to stay here because it is hard to earn a living and the migration of people is a serious threat. The elderly and children are the major population. The population aging is the crisis in Shiding. No people take over local industries and no infusing new life into Shiding is a great concern. There are few records on Shiding in references. This study aims to take control of the characteristic of Shihding by way of travel design of deep participation with regional viewpoints through reference collection and field research. Cultural landscapes and natural ecology excavated around Shiding mountain street combine with cultural industry to plan and develop streamside recreational area. These suggestions of local settlement development and tourism are for the reference of authorities concerned in the future to make a comprehensive plan of the settlement. We look forward to the glory of the past through tourism industry.
