Therefore, the adaptive reuse of a historic site becomes a subject to be discussed. The Red House Theater Octagonal Display Hall in Ximending is also designated as a historic site and has been stationed and operated by different groups. The “Red House Theater Octagonal Display Hall” is the study subject in this paper. Under the precondition of discussing the criteria of a quality space, the research issues related to the adaptive reuse of space by the Culture Foundation are proposed as follows: (1) Is there any conflict between the space of a historic site and the contents of its adaptive reuse? (2) Is the direction of the adaptive reuse of space by the Culture Foundation appropriated? (3) What is the organizational relationship behind the spatial phenomenon? The research method for understanding the actual situation is by the space observation, the collection of literatures related to The Red House Theater, the field qualitative interviews, and the actual participation and observation. The research findings include: (1) The conditions of the historic site, Octagonal Display Hall, do not meet the needs of the lessors, so there is too much service space inside the historic site, causing a heavy burden to the Octagonal Display Hall; (2) Under the diversified operation of the Culture Foundation, the space is divided for management that does not match the character of the market and causes the phenomenon of unintegrated space; (3) Therefore, different levels of public sectors are placed in the block that causes the space not meeting the needs of business owners currently. It is suggested that the adaptive reuse of the historic site should be in conformity with the characteristics of the market in the future for the better development of the block. In addition, the block should be operated by having the two virtual spaces of north square and south square become two heterogeneous sectors through the space management of the conscious business owners in order to provide a good space for the community. 林正雄 2017 學位論文 ; thesis 103 zh-TW
