With the rapid economic development and enhancing criminal cases, people’s demand for personal and property safety is increasing as well. As a result, since the first security company founded in 1978, the number of the company currently has climbed to more than 750. The services provided can be divided into four types: information system security, security guard, personal bodyguard, and logistic security.
The rapid change of the domestic market environment and demand have gradually shifted the security companies from providing services to the overall protection of “people.” This transformation leads to the increased proportion of security services year by year. The current market has gradually mature and saturated. The only way to maintain and develop new markets is to introduce new products or value-added services, such as image monitoring, health management, long-term care, green building, smart home, tracking security service and so forth.
Nowadays, the technology is ever-changing, and the industrial competition is severe. This study first adopts the four major elements of the business model proposed by Mark Johnson, i.e., customer value proposition, profit formula, key resources, key processes, as a tool to analyze the case and explore its business model and business operation. This study further uses “The Business Model Canvas” proposed by Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur to understand the scientific argumentation of how the case company to create and convey value to customers. By adopting this Business Model Canvas, this study breaks down the case company into nine different elements and creates an innovate and profitable business model blueprint based on the current market trend and the condition of the company. Lastly, this study utilizes Michael Porter's "value chain analysis" to find the competitive advantages of the case company. The analysis of the relevant external market information and the internal current situation help adjust the elements of the business model, which points out the direction of future development and competitiveness improvement for the reference of the case company.
The discussion and analysis of this study identify that the current security industry can incorporate Internet of Things and big data to create an innovative business model and new business opportunities. Only through the continuous innovation and R&D capabilities, enhanced service quality, increased competitive advantages, and innovative business model that a company can stand firm and move forward to improve its profitability.
